Make Time for the Mind

Our minds are complex creations. Perhaps, the most complicated machines which exist, even in an era of modern technological advancements. We are born into this world, and there are no definite instructions  discussing the functioning mind. Yes, common sense eventually kicks, with some guidance from our parents, and we learn to eat, and walk, and speak. Yet, as we age, time must be spent focusing on our minds to ensure they remain in top condition.

I once read a book focused on the benefits of daily routine and structure. When it comes to keeping mentally healthy, things such as our eating habits, the time we wake, exercise regimes, education and night routines are crucial. They stop life becoming blurred, restoring our vision and focus. Indeed, it is impossible to stick to a rigid pattern that has no room for flexibility because, lets face it, we house different moods on different days. However, if you write a basic checklist listing three items,  the improvements are exponential mentally. For example, make some homemade soup, go for a walk and read another chapter of your book. Simply, each time you complete an item on your list, cross it off. I like to do this because, as a teacher once told me, every time you tick a task off, despite it's size, you give yourself, subconsciously. a little boost.

Alongside a routine, its important to test our brain power constantly. At the end of the day, our brain is like a muscle; it really should be exercised regularly. Invest in a good reading book, or even a gaming app for your phone, or buy a cross word book off Amazon, or complete a free online course. Some struggle with  motivating themselves when it comes to learning and upskilling. Why bother? We've all wondered if a task is really worth competing. In order to conquer,  I always try to be logical when doubting I remind myself  that it's important to learn and develop, because when you're questioned, as inevitably we all are at some point, the answers are ready to roll off the tip of your tongue.  Try and exercise both the right and left side of your brain, by also developing your creative portfolio. Build, cook, decorate, draw, paint, sew, design. As previously mentioned, the brain is like a muscle, therefore it’s up to you to make it as strong as possible.

So, challenge yourself this week… Get those checklists out. Grab your aprons. Open your books. Pick up your pen. Build anything. Learn everything. Moreover, it's so important to just try to make some time for your mind!
 Be mindful of your minutes.
